I wonder if part of middle-age angst is us struggling with accepting a life goal of contentment instead of happiness. Contentment seems much more stable and sustainable than happiness. Maybe we are chasing the wrong thing in our youth and once we hit middle age we don’t know how we’re “supposed” to feel.
